Team ParentDataHi everyone! 👋🏻 I’m Alex, the Chief Content Officer at ParentData. I live in Providence, Rhode Island with my 3-year-old Joanna (aka Jojo.) A few of our favorite things include walking to the bakery, reading books, and talking about unicorns. To get a little personal: I am going through divorce and all about bringing that and other complex, hard-to-navigate parenting topics to this space. So excited to meet and chat with you all!

Emily Oster, PhDHi Everyone! It’s Emily. I’m a professor of economics, a mom of two and a runner. And I write ParentData! I’m so thrilled to have you all in this community and I can’t wait to hear more from you.

SophieHey there!👋🏻 I’m Sophie, Emily’s Chief of Staff here at ParentData. I have two sons, a toddler and a newborn, and one poorly trained yellow lab. It’s fair to say we are in the thick of it right now, and I am personally inspired every day by our mission to empower parents by providing the data and tools they need to make confident decisions. Thank you for being here and joining our village!

DenisseHi Everyone! 👋🏼 I’m Denisse, the Community Manager here at ParentData. Think of me as your ParentData Village Liaison. I’m a mom to two girls: a spunky 2.8-year-old and a 6-month-old. When I’m not heart-deep in all things community, you can find me humming the Bluey theme song (even in the absence of my toddler), writing about my journey as a parent, or traveling for photography.
My family and I just relocated to the Mississippi Coast, and I’ve found this transitional period to be very challenging, especially with small children. Luckily, it takes a village, and what better place for me to be? I can’t wait to connect with you.

Tamar AvishaiHi village! I’m Tamar, the ParentData podcast producer. I live in Cleveland (by way of Boston), and have two boys, a spunky 4.5 year-old and his sweet-as-pie two-year-old shadow. I was an Emily Oster early adopter and am so thrilled to be a part of sharing her voice (literally!). When I’m not picking up Cheerios, you can find me baking, playing guitar, and tinkering my art history podcast.

Hi Tamar, I was wondering if you guys ever covered social dynamics for kids on preschool on your podcast. I am learning that kids start to exclude other kids and say inappropriate thing (the classic bullying) at a very young age. I am looking for advices on how to help my daughter, she is the youngest on her class and the kids are giving her a really hard time when comes to allowing her to participate on group activities. She is capable and know what is required to be on that classroom, but now she is becoming shy and afraid to speak up what is a red flag to me, she was a natural social butterfly and now she is avoiding approaching other kids even on parks and out of school activities. I hear from the teacher that she is “quite” and rather “watch” the older kids, what is opposite of what I observe. She loves to play and used to be very social.
If you guys ever covered this topic please send it my way.
Here is what I am trying:
1) Set 1:1 playdates with the kids that seems to be the ones leading the “separation” and “mean comments”
2) I already talked to the school director and her teacher
3) I am searching for new schools options, because I am not sure if this school is dealing with the issue properly
4) Asking for advices/ help from other parents– Marcia, economist, mother of a 3.5yr, CA.
Question/suggestion for podcast topics: Has bullying being normalized as “girl boss attitude”, “natural leader”? Are we permitting our kids to be mean if that they are the “leader” versus the victim? Is “gentle parenting” allowing bad behaviors?0 comments

Kellogg10Hello! My name is Alexis, mother of a brand new baby and a 3 year old bernedoodle named Newman who still thinks he’s a baby. We live in the Providence, RI metro area and are a very data driven family who are trying to navigate how to balance that with the unpredictability of a newborn addition to our lives.
I love spending time outside and at the library. When I’m not researching or walking I’m likely to be crafting or playing cozy games on my switch. Nice to virtually meet you all!

DenisseHi, Alexis! Congratulations on your new baby. I hope Newman is adjusting well. Thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself. I love your cozy games hobby. Very into Fae Farm myself right now.
Let me know us know if you need anything. We’re so glad you’re here!

Hi! I started following Emily on Instagram when I became a mom and loved all of the helpful data-driven recommendations (I also ran my first marathon this year and loved all of the training content!). I have one daughter (15 months) and work full time for a residential children’s summer camp (It’s mostly project-based work during the off-season).
I’m excited to meet everyone!! I know Sophie (go Broncos!) and had no idea she was part of this team. I wanted to create an account right away 🙂

Hi everyone! I’m a mom to a 5-year old and (surprise) 5-month old twins, living on a farm in Wisconsin. I am Chief Science Officer at a neuroplasticity training nonprofit and lover of all things evidence-based. Also cheese. Evidence based cheese?

MeganI’m also in to evidence-based cheese! Did you know cheese is the best food to prevent cavities? Cheese is only slightly acidic and contains such a small amount of fermentable carbohydrates that it is a great snack for kids to prevent cavities. Can you tell I’m a pediatric dentist? 😆

Jennifer HHi! My name is Jennie, and I have three kids ages 2-7. I live in San Francisco and work in k-12 education. I read Expecting Better when I was pregnant with my first child and found it so helpful for reducing my worries and filling my need for data. I’ve been an Emily fan ever since! I love the content that has to do with older children and panic headlines, and I love contributing to questions related to younger children (especially breastfeeding with inverted nipples!). So nice to meet the Parent Data team virtually! Thanks for all that you do ❤️

multivariatemamaHi everyone! I’m Tobi, mom to a 1.5 yr old and a development psychology PhD student at UC Santa Cruz. I am a huge ParentData fan girl, thank you to the ParentData team for doing what you do with a shade of humor. For me joy these days is finishing a thought uninterrupted over a cup of coffee, in a previous life I also enjoyed surfing, skiing, and generally moving my body outdoors.

EquestrienneMamaHi everyone!! My name is Devon, I have a (pet) steer, two horses, and a cat, and am almost at the end of my first trimester of my first pregnancy in northwestern Maine. I am a data scientist by profession so when I started reading Emily’s books two years ago I was relieved and overjoyed to find a kindred spirit and a way to feel like I could truly equip myself with information. I grew up without my mom, as did my partner, and it took Emily’s well-researched, rational empowerment for me to feel confident enough in my power to try to become a parent.

MeganHello fellow data-driving parent focused people! I am a pediatric dentist endeavoring to practice evidence-based care in Bellevue, WA. It’s so hard to sift through areas that are not of my particular expertise but I feel the best clinicians are well-rounded beyond their particular training. I appreciate the Parent Data approach to discussing the state of the scientific literature in a measured and practical way that acknowledges the limitations of what we know.
Personally, I am a married 38 year old who is debating having children and, like many of the women involved with Parent Data, am concerned with the challenges of combining child-rearing and a career. I find Parent Data to be valuable to me personally and professionally and am excited to see it grow.0 comments -

Hello! I am Stefanie, an art curator and director at a university art gallery in TX. I have a 5-year-old kiddo (who identifies as boy/girl/cat and sometimes a dragon). I had a rough last two years trying for a second, which is not going to happen due to secondary infertility. I learned so much from Emily during my pregnancy in reading “Expecting Better” and have loved being informed by data in our decisions for raising our kid. Yay for the village!

ReccaHi village! I’m Rebecca, a Content Strategy Analyst for newspapers and freelance digital editor/analytics based in Columbus, Ohio! I’m somehow already 16 weeks pregnant with my first child (the first trimester was, thankfully, a blur) and have been devouring the Parent Data books and content. I’m a very data-focused person (it’s my job!) and nothing has been so helpful during pregnancy as this collection of books and content.

trishbwHi Village, I’m Trish! I’m Chief of Staff for a mineral sunscreen company, mom to a lil 18mo sunbeam in Dallas TX, and married to one of the most top tier humans on the planet.
I credit Emily and the ParentData community for the peace and confidence I have found through pregnancy and early parenthood, and am so grateful it exists. I love the reminders that there’s “no one way to parent” and the data-supported conversations and research shared in this community.
To get personal – I feel a little out of place in motherhood. I would say (whisper) I don’t generally enjoy it – like, this isn’t my “favorite season”. I love my daughter and I get a lot of joy from watching her grow, but I don’t feel a deep connection to being a mom. It’s like I feel like I don’t worry enough, or cry about milestones enough. So, I think I rather desperately seek community in motherhood to maybe build a deeper connection to it.
Thanks for coming to my therapy session LOL. Excited to be here!

Hi there! My name is Meredith. I am almost 10 months into my parenting journey here (son born in April) but over a year into relishing Emily’s approach to data about pregnancy and parenting. What a even-keeled and calming effect her books and this community has had for me when I see those panic headlines. I wish I ran more (getting back into it with the jogging stroller) and am working hard to navigate my career with my family. Thanks for all you do here at Parent Data.

Hi Everyone, I’m Roma, I’m an economist (with academia & publication background, publication bias is try!) turned data scientist. I live in Warsaw, Poland and work for the legal tech Chicago based company. I’m a mom of Tymon, who will turn 4 in March. I’m a huge fun of good food & wine, yoga and karaoke. I’m so glad I don’t need to spend hours on google scholar searching for reliable papers around all things kids & parenting, thanks ParentData!

Looking into doing some coursework in days science before getting back in the workforce and I thought this might be a good forum to find other data-parents. I’d also love suggestions for data analysis projects to practice on.

FourbabiesHello! I don’t fit the traditional demographic here as I am the mother of four grown children (born in 1990, 1992, 1994 and 1996!) I look back on those crazy years raising children with tremendous fondness (and perhaps some amnesia). I returned to graduate school when my eldest started high school and currently work as a master’s-level psychotherapist in the Boston suburbs. I love working with teens, young adults and couples. I so wish resources like Parent Data were available when I was in the thick of parenting, but we all do our best with what we know at the time! Raising children has been and always will be one of the most challenging jobs and finding support and community makes it just a little easier.

jhartHello everyone! I’m Jessica and am raising my 5 month old baby boy. I also had a baby girl who passed away in 2021 at 4 months old due to kidney failure after her congenital defects went undetected until birth. During my pregnancy with my living child I read Cribsheet and enjoyed the synthesis provided, and have been enjoying ParentData too. Thank you for continuing to provide data-driven information that help me make decisions.

LucyHi everyone, I’m Lucy! Mom and music teacher/designer living in Los Angeles. My toddler is almost two, and I’m due with my second baby in May. I’ll echo others’ sentiments that reading Emily Oster’s books has been pivotal in helping me reduce my parenting worries and find my inner strength/voice. If there are other ParentData community members in LA, I would love to find a way to be friends!

Hello, fellow data enthusiasts! I’m Colleen, a clinical research coordinator focused on migraine and epilepsy clinical trials. I spent most of my career in academia studying multiple sclerosis in a mouse model, so I’m familiar with finding and scrutinizing primary literature. However, since having a baby (now 13 months), the time and mental stamina are not there. That’s why I’m so grateful for ParentData and Emily’s research study breakdowns. It’s lovely to meet you all!

Hi all! I’m Kayleigh, I’m a education support professional working in K-8 in the Boston area. I live on the North Shore of Massachusetts. I’ve always been interested in evidence-based infant care, I come from a family of scientists/doctors and my husband is also a PhD in Organic Chemistry. We are both 35 and wll be embarking on trying to conceive our first child this summer. We never planned on starting “so late” but the pandemic and two international moves scuppered our best laid plan… I am so glad that resources like ParentData exist! Nice to meet you all!

Hi all! I’m Chloe, the co-founder of Honeycomb, and a big Emily Oster fan. I have 10, 8 and 7 year old girls, and we live in Bolinas, CA. I relied on Emily’s data-driven work during covid to help build confidence and momentum to open our local public school ahead most others in our county, and I love that Parent Data is expanding far beyond pregnancy and birth into perimenopause (I’m 49) and other related topics. So happy to be here and for this resource.
