Should You Worry About Your Toddler’s Potbelly?

Q&A about core strength

My 2-year-old has a potbelly. No other concerns regarding his development, but should I be worried about him not having a strong core?

—Belly belly

It is extremely common for toddlers to have a potbelly. This is a standard toddler shape.

In some cases, if a potbelly develops along with signs of illness (a fever, pain, or vomiting), it could reflect bloating or gas. But if your kid feels good, is happy, and has a potbelly, that is totally fine. As he gets taller and older, and heads toward school age, it will slim down.

This was an easy one — no need to put your 2-year-old on a core regimen just yet.
