How to introduce solids?
Last updated on April 1, 2026
Babies are ready for solid food when they can hold their head up, sit with support, and start moving their hands toward their mouth (generally 4-6 months). It's recommended to introduce allergens, like peanuts and eggs, early on to reduce the risk of long-term allergies. When it comes to baby-led weaning vs. more traditional spoon-feeding, there is little evidence of improved outcomes for baby-led weaning; however, there is also no harm in trying it if it interests you. Do not introduce choking hazards to babies, such as candies or nuts. Remember, there's no one-size-fits-all approach, so choose what feels comfortable and practical for you and your baby.
