How frustrating! You hope that family can be a trustworthy source of support as you raise your family, but alas that’s not always the case. Remember that setting boundaries is for you, not for others to adhere to. Just like you’d tell a small child “I will not let you hit me”, it sounds like this boundary is “I will not let you ignore my wishes for how to care for my child”. Even though it’ll be tough in the meantime, start brainstorming ways to come up with other options for child care where the care giver listens and respects you as the child’s parent. Also, where is your wife in all this? She should be standing with you on this issue, and I’d argue be the one leading the charge – since it’s her mother after all.
