Can I get on an airplane when pregnant?

Last updated on April 1, 2026

Yes, flying is generally safe during pregnancy. That said, it's best to avoid it after 34 weeks. This is mainly because of concerns about going into labor while in the air or having the baby far from home, especially if you’re at risk for preterm labor. Always wear your seatbelt and consider moving around during longer flights to reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis (although it's very small and confined to longer-haul flights). Consult your doctor if you have any additional concerns.
